A la vez que se daba por finalizado este nuevo tramo de gira por Estados Unidos, que no sería el último, se conmemoraba un aniversario muy especial, el 25 aniversario de la publicación del single de mayor éxito en toda la carrera de Police y de Sting: “Every breath you take”.
Un día después de finalizar la gira americana (que coincidía con la fecha de la apertura un año atrás de esta gira de reunión), se produjo algo que debería inquietar a Sting. Parece ser que en la actuación de su hija de 17 años, Coco, en el Jazz After Dark in Soho, ofrecida el 29 de mayo contó con un invitado sorpresa: el díscolo Pete Doherty, cantante de “The Babyshambles”, que tocó la batería en uno de los temas y manifestó su admiración por Coco. Sting dijo al público: “Estaba un poco preocupado de que no vinierais por el frío, pero sospecho de que es un lujo para vosotros”. También antes de presentar “Don’t stand so close to me”, un Sting más comunicativo de lo normal dijo: “Antes de tener este trabajo era profesor, tenía un pensión y una hipoteca, ¿qué es lo que me sucedió?”.

El concierto transcurrió con la habitual normalidad. Durante estos días se anunció (aunque no de manera oficial) que Sting actuaría en un homenaje en París por el primer aniversario de la muerte de Pavarotti. Junto a él actuarían Patrick Bruel, Patricia Kaas, Eros Ramazotti, Roberto Alagna y Zucchero.

En este concierto se agotaron todas las entradas y como principal novedad fue el cameo de Sting durante el set de Elvis Costello en “Alison”. Muy popular hace años fue la rivalidad entre Sting y Costello, ambos en variadas ocasiones se descalificaron. Parece que las rencillas hoy son cosa del pasado.

La base rítmica creada por Sting y Stewart con el añadido del colorido que aporta la guitarra de Summers dejó boquiabierto a un anfiteatro Cruzan que agotó con facilidad todas sus entradas. Poco antes de dar inicio su set, Sting volvió a aparecer como invitado en el de Costello para cantar con él su éxito “Alison”.

La prensa recalcó la fuerza que fue tomando paulatinamente la actuación de Police a pesar de haber empezado de manera suave, con un acústico “Bring on the night”. Por quinta vez Sting cantó con Elvis Costello “Alison”.

La última vez que The Police tocaron en Omaha en el año 1982 una botella tirada al escenario estuvo muy cerca de impactar contra Stewart Copeland, el grupo abandonó el escenario muy aireado y jamás regresaron, hasta hoy, 26 años después ofreciendo un estupendo concierto y sin muestra alguna de rencor por el poco afortunado incidente. Sting cantó una vez más con Costello “Alison” en el set de éste.

El auditorio estaba lleno al 98% algo más meritorio teniendo en cuenta el alto precio de las entradas que iban desde los 100 a los 200 euros. Los que llegaron pronto pudieron ver algo muy especial que se ha venido repitiendo en las últimas fechas, el dueto de Sting y Costello en “Alison”. Los Imposters estan formados por Steve Nieve (Teclados), Davey Faragher (Bajo) y Pete Thomas (Batería).

La gente disfrutaba de poder ver en un mismo concierto a dos importantes iconos de la música británica surgida a finales de los 70: The Police y Elvis Costello. Durante la actuación de Costello Sting volvió a aparecer para cantar a duo “Alison”, y Costello además interpretó una canción que no tocaba desde hacía 30 años: “Watching the detectives”.

En este cuarto concierto nuevamente por Estados Unidos, The Police reestructuró un poco el repertorio, “Message in a bottle” que había sido relegada a la parte final del espectáculo volvió a tocarse muy al principio, “Walking on the moon” se tocó por delante que “Demolition man”, y sorprendentemente “Synchronicity II” desapareció por esta noche del concierto sin ser sustituida por otra. Sting contó al publico que la primera vez que tocaron en Chicago fue en un club llamado “The Beginnings” (en marzo de 1979) y que acudieron 6 personas a verlos, Sting entonces preguntó a la audiencia: “¿Qué ha pasado?”.
En el set de 50 minutos de Elvis Costello, Sting apareció para cantar a duo con él su éxito “Alison”.

El concierto careció de sorpresas. En el estreno en Tribeca de “Man on wire”, sobre el maestro de la cuerda floja Philippe Petit, Sting manifestó que ha instalado un cable en el jardín para imitar a su ídolo, “todo lo que sé sobre este pasatiempo me lo enseñó Petit”, exclamó.

Sting y su guitarra acústica volvieron a abrir de manera sorprendente el concierto con los primeros acordes de “Bring on the night”. Un modo mucho más reposado de dar inicio una actuación, aunque con “Demolition man” si que se empezaría a caldear el ambiente. Las críticas hacía Elvis Costello también fueron muy favorables y destacaban que si no tuviera detrás a una super banda como The Police, le podría robar el concierto a cualquiera.
Se anunció que para finales de noviembre Sting y Elvis Costello volverían a colaborar, en esta ocasión para apoyar los conciertos en directo que se celebrarán en París de la Ópera compuesta por el habitual teclista de Costello, Steve Nieve, y que lleva por título “Welcome to the voice”.

Durante los tres meses que tuvieron de inciso, Sting lo dedicó a viajar al Nepal por segunda vez en tres años y a su hija Coco se la rifaron las compañias discográficas a raíz de una maquetas colgadas en internet, Stewart Copeland tuvo tiempo para emprender proyectos personales como la presentación de la pieza “Celeste” (llamada así en honor a una de sus hijas) en el Savannah Music Festival junto al violinista Daniel Hope y el pianista Sebastian Knauer. 5 días antes del inicio de gira Sting y Trudie aparecieron en el Festival de cine de Tribeca para apoyar el estreno del documental “Man on wire”.
Después de un set de 40 minutos muy bien recibido de Elvis Costello, The Police reapareció en este último tramo de su gira mundial, con un par de sorpresas en la manga. El concierto dio origen con una versión acústica de “Bring on the night”, un tema muy reclamado por sus fans, y a continuación se interpretó “Demolition man”, otro tema no interpretado en toda la gira de reunificación que aún sonaba un poco forzada. “Message in a bottle” que abría hasta ahora todos los conciertos se trasladó en el climax final del espectáculo mientras que “Walking in your footsteps” y “Truth hits everybody” desaparecieron del repertorio.
