COMENTARIO: 

Alemania es una parada muy frecuente de Sting durante sus tours, incluso sus discos más esotéricos allí conocieron mucho más éxito que en gran parte del mundo. Solamente en esta gira le quedaban al menos otros 5 conciertos que ofrecer en tierras germanas. En este Festival también participaron Anna Mateur, Deichkind, Roland Kaiser y Pet Shop Boys. Después de esta actuación la banda tuvo 6 días para que Dominic pudiera acudir en Suecia al enlace matrimonial de su hijo Harley, y Sting casara a su hija Mickey en su Villa de la Toscana. La siguiente parada sería España en donde darían 3 conciertos consecutivos.

Después del Festival en Lille, Sting y su banda se trasladaron hasta Dinamarca, en donde no volverán a tocar hasta finales de septiembre en el siguiente tramo de su gira europea. En esta actuación se volvió a incluir un tema que va y viene, y que siempre es un deleite poder escuchar abriendo las actuaciones, la confesional y emotiva “Heading South on the great North road”. Martin Kierszenbaum, el manager de Sting, volvió a colgar en las redes fotos de Sting grabando nuevo material, ¿de qué se tratará?.

COMENTARIO: 

Al estar enmarcada la actuación dentro de un importante Festival francés, Joe Sumner no tuvo la oportunidad de ser el telonero de su padre, pero sí de ser su corista en numerosos momentos y además de contar con su momento de lucimiento: ese tributo a Bowie que hace cada noche desde que la gira arrancara a primeros de febrero. En el cartel de este día también actuaba el trompetista de origen libanés Ibrahim Maalouf, buen amigo de Sting, que tocó en su disco “If on a winter’s night…” (2009) y que ha colaborado en vivo en alguna ocasión, como en el mediatico concierto de reapertura de la parisina Sala Bataclan, un año después de producirse allí un terrible ataque terrorista. En este Festival también participaron Martin Garrix, Klingande y el siempre polémico Justin Bieber.

COMENTARIO: 

Se recuperaron los temas que habían desaparecido en el Festival Metronome de Praga, todos menos “Down, down, down”. Joe volvió a cantar su homenaje a David Bowie inmediatamente antes de la maravillosa “50.000” sobre todas la estrellas desaparecías del firmamento de la música en 2016. En este Festival también participaron Alice Cooper, Chris De Burgh, Status Quo, ZZ Top, Deep Purple y BryanAdams.

COMENTARIO: 

Al tratarse de un Festival el tiempo era más limitado y se dejaron fuera por desgracia 4 canciones estupendas: “I can’t stop thinking about you”, “One fine day”, “Mad about you” y “Down, down, down”. En Praga, Sting, Dominic y Rufus dieron una clase de yoga con el maestro Danny Paradise, con el que Sting tiene una gran amistad, hasta el punto de que cuando Danny decidió debutar en el mundo de la música, con el álbum “River of the soul” (2000), Sting le hizo coros en el tema “Searching for the holy grail”. En este Festival también participaron Young Fathers, Solomun y Kasabian, que fueron los cabezas de cartel del segundo día de actuaciones.

COMENTARIO: 

Tercer y último concierto en Noruega, una tramo muy exitoso de la gira “57th & 9th”. En tres actuaciones Sting congregó a más de 30.000 espectadores. La única variación con el resto de actuaciones fue que en esta ocasión se prescindió de un tema estupendo del último álbum, “Down, down, down”. Después de esta actuación Sting y su banda se dirigirían a la República Checa, en donde participarían en un conocido Festival de Praga. En este Festival de Bergen donde había tocado Sting también participaron Kurt Nilsen, The Weeknd y Robbie Williams.

COMENTARIO: 

Segundo concierto en Noruega, muy lluvioso. Sting apareció con la chaqueta azul que solía lucir durante la gira que hizo en 2016 con Peter Gabriel por los Estados Unidos. El repertorio volvió a ser el mismo. Durante su paso por Noruega, Sting aprovechó para grabar material junto a su manager y productor Martin Kierszenbaum, que fue el encargado de filtrarlo a los medios.

COMENTARIO: 
Después de su paso por Suecia, Sting ofreció tres conciertos en Noruega, el primero de ellos en Bodo. El día libre antes de esta actuación, Sting y parte de su equipo visitaron Saltstraumen, considerada la corrinte de mareas más poderosa del planeta. En esta actuación hubo alguna novedad como el volver a incluir el tema acústico “Heading South on the great North road”, y sobre todo la inclusión de uno de sus mayores hit en solitario, “If I ever lose my faith in you”, inédito hasta ahora en el tour. Sting se manifestó muy satisfecho de encontrarse por primera vez tan cerca del Polo Norte y por el éxito de su actuación en Bodo.
En este Festival también participaron The Mystery Lights, The Veils y Franz Ferdinand.

COMENTARIO: 

Un día después de recibir el Premio Polar de la Música en Estocolmo, Sting iniciaba el segundo tramo de su gira por Europa, un tour centrado principalmente en Festivales. Sting y su banda eligieron el impresionante anfiteatro Dalhalla de Rättvik para su único concierto en Suecia. El repertorio elegido no tuvo ninguna variación con el del tour japonés. El acordeonista Percy Cardona, integrante de la banda The Last Bandoleros, abandonó temporalmente la misma para continuar tocando de gira con Sting y su banda y tocar puntualmente en algunos de los temas, como en el recientemente incorporado “Mad about you”. 

En éste festival también participaron Per Gessle, Jerry Williams, Emmylou Harris o Pet Shop Boys.

COMENTARIO:

Sting y el saxofonista de Jazz Wayne Shorter fueron los ganadores del Premio Polar 2017, considerado como el Nobel de la música. Era la 26ª ocasión en la que se entregaban, en ediciones anteriores se premió a Paul McCartney, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Burt Bacharach, Joni Mitchell, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Youssou N’Dour o Mstislav Rostropovich.

El motivo oficial para honrar este año a Sting fue “ser el músico que más he experimentados en géneros profanos de toda su generación”. Este Premio está dotado con 106.000 euros.

Durante la lectura de su discurso de agradecimiento, Sting manifestó su admiración por el otro premiado Wayne Shorter, alguien del que ha admirado su música y su filosofía desde hace muchos, muchos años. También reconoció su influencia como guitarrista y cantante de José Feliciano, algo que nunca se había dicho hasta ese momento. Habló también del gran Gil Evans quien decía que no existía una mala nota, que siempre la nota siguiente era la que definía si la anterior era equivocada o no.

Numerosos artistas suecos (Jennie Abrahamson, Linnea Olsson) rindieron tributo a Sting y Wayne Shorter durante la gala, también hubo algunos artistas más internacionales (José Feliciano, Gregory Porter).

La cena tuvo lugar en el Grand Hotel Stockholm y allí tuvieron lugar más actuaciones a cargo de Eva Dahlgren, Esperanza Spalding o una inesperada Annie Lennox que hizo una preciosa versión a piano de “Fragile”.

COMENTARIO:

Último concierto de la gira japonesa, y también el último en que se contaría con el grupo de San Antonio “The Last Bandoleros” como teloneros, después de 58 conciertos en 23 países diferentes. La banda de Diego Navaira y Jerry Fuente, que ha encontrado tan excelente plataforma promocional en la gira de Sting, tocará como artistas principales durante el verano en Estados Unidos y en septiembre volverán a incorporarse a la “57th & 9th”, cuando el tour regrese a América. Antes de emprender un segundo tour por Europa, ahora tocando en su mayoría en Festivales al aíre libre, Sting recibirá en Estocolmo el Premio Polar, considerado como el Nobel de la música, que lo recibirá junto al trompetista de jazz Wayne Shorter.

COMENTARIO:

En Japón Sting ha actuado en los últimos 30 años más de 60 veces. Llevaba desde 2011 sin hacer una gira de conciertos por allí. Dentro de la “57th & 9th” hubo 4 conciertos en Japón, los tres primeros en un sitio mítico, el Budokan de Tokio, donde se han grabado tantos conciertos en vivo. Rufus Miller manifestó por las redes su impresión por estar tocando en este “Templo de la música”.

Se sustituyó el tema “Seven days” a favor de “Mad about you”, que no había sido tocado en todo el tour. También se recuperó la maravillosa “Heading South on the great North road” con la que solía abrir los conciertos en Estados Unidos y Europa. En los ensayos de estos conciertos sonó un tema muy curioso, “Big lie, small world”, del álbum “Brand new day” y que únicamente se tocó en vivo en 3 ocasiones al comienzo del aquel tour.

CONCIERTO EN HONG KONG CONVENTION AND EXHIBITION CENTRE, HALL 5BC, HONG KONG (CHINA). (3/6/2017).

COMENTARIO:

Sting ha actuado en numerosas ocasiones en China, con The Police tocó dos veces en Hong Kong en 1980 y en Macao en 2008. En solitario siempre ha elegido Hong Kong como punto de sus actuaciones, debutó los días 7 y 8/10/1996 dentro de la gira “Mercury falling”. El 26/1/2005 dentro de la gira “Sacred love” repitió y más tarde dentro de la gira del laúd tocó en el Jockey Club de Hong Kong ante 700 personas tan solo. Y por último el 2/12/2012 dentro de la “Back to bass”, Sting tocó en el mismo recinto que lo hace ahora.
