EL DISCO DE DOMINIC MILLER CON MANOLITO SIMONET VERÁ (POR FÍN) LA LUZ

Hace dos años y medio hablé en un post de una curiosa colaboración, la del guitarrista argentino Dominic Miller con el pianista cubano Manolito Simonet, líder de una conocida banda de salsa y timba. Ambos se conocieron por mediación del productor Antonio Martínez y llegaron incluso a tocar juntos en un concierto en Karlsruhe (Alemania) en abril de 2009. La versión que interpretaron de "Shape of my heart" debió destilar mucha magia porque ya entonces ambos hablaron de la posibilidad de grabar algún día un álbum completo.

 

Ese álbum tardó algún tiempo en materializarse. Fue grabado en el estudio que Manolito posee en Cuba en mayo de 2012 y en marzo de 2013 se hicieron las mezclas en Tenerife bajo la atenta mirada de Antonio Martínez. Que viera la luz ha sido otro largo camino, las grabacciones han permanecido más de dos años guardadas en algún cajón... hasta hoy!!.

 

Dominic ha anunciado en su cuenta oficial de Facebook el próximo lanzamiento a finales de año de "Hecho en Cuba". Es la tercera vez que se alía con otro músico para hacer algo en común, ya lo hizo con el también guitarrista Neil Stacey en 2002 y con el pianista Peter Kater en 2008.

En este disco escucharemos reinterpretaciones al estilo salsero de temas como "La belle dame sans regrets", "Lullaby to an anxious child", "Shape of my heart", "Tokyo", "Embrace", "Chansom I" o "La boca", además Manolito ha compuesto para la ocasión otro tema, "D'Pronto".

 

El álbum será presentado por sus dos artífices con un concierto en vivo en Fábrica Arte, La Habana (Cuba), el próximo 8 de octubre.

COMENTARIO:

El Global Citizen Festival se creó en 2012 para instar a los líderes políticos mundiales a que tomen medidas para luchar contra la pobreza extrema. Este año se celebraba al tiempo que los 193 Estados de la ONU, con el respaldo del Papa Francisco, aprobaban un plan de acción con 17 objetivos para erradicarla en un plazo de 15 años.

Bono fue el encargado de abrir este Festival, parafraseando a Nelson Mandela presentó a la Premio Nobel de la Paz Malala Yousafzai. Otros célebres oradores fueron intercalándose entre las actuaciones musicales, el Presidente Barack Obama vía satélite, la Primera Dama Michelle Obama, la Reina Rania de Jordania, Mark Zuckerberg, Salma Hayek, Stephen Colbert, Hugh Jackman, Katie Holmes, Olivia Wilde o Leonardo DiCaprio, entre otros.

Desde las 4 de la tarde y durante casi 7 horas se fueron sucediendo las actuciones de Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Common, Beyoncé y Pearl Jam. Sorprendentes e inolvidables duetos se fueron produciendo: Coldplay invitaron a Ariana Grande a cantar “Just a little bit of your heart”; Ed Sheeran haría lo propio con Chris Martin durante “Thinking out loud”; Sheeran y Beyoncé compartirían más tarde micro en “Drunk in love”; Common y Sting, que no estaba anunciado, revisitaron dos temas policiacos, “Every breath you take” y “One world (Not three)”; por último Eddie Vedder con la ayuda de Beyoncé harían una desgarradora versión del “Redemption song” de Bob Marley.

Era la cuarta ocasión en que se celebraba este Festival y la segunda consecutiva en la que aparecía Sting, el año pasado durante el set de No Doubt y este casi casi irreconocible, con una frondosa barba y ataviado con un gorro beanie, en el del rapero de Chicago Common, con el que además comparte sello discográfico. Al día siguiente Sting y su mujer Trudie acudieron a la gala de entrega de los Clinton Global Citizen Awards, en los que fueron premiados en 2011.

COMENTARIO:

La convención nacional que KIA Motors hizo en Estados Unidos tuvo lugar en el lujosísimo Hotel Wynn (5 diamantes) de Las Vegas. Allí, entre el 22 y el 24 de septiembre, se reunieron los mejores vendedores de todo el país. La guinda final a tres días de actividades la puso Sting, muy amigo de estos conciertos privados corporativos, que cantó grandes éxitos como “Message in a bottle”, “Roxanne” o “Every breath you take”, en exclusiva para los empleados de la conocida constructora surcoreana de automóviles.

Para este compromiso Sting reunió a la misma banda con la que lleva girando desde 2011, tan solo faltó a la cita el violinista Peter Tickell, y con los que volverá a contar en sus próximas actuaciones en México, Chile y Argentina.

COMENTARIO:

En el 14º aniversario de los trágicos atentados a las Torres Gemelas, Sting cantó nuevamente “Fragile” como tributo a las víctimas del 11S. El marco fue la conferencia de la asociación de ejecutivos YPO “All Access NYC: Icons, Influence and Inspiration”, que tuvo como plato fuerte la charla del entonces Alcalde de Nueva York, Rudy Giuliani. Esta convención tuvo lugar en el Hotel Palace de Nueva York y la actuación de Sting supuso toda una sorpresa para los presentes, puesto que no se había anunciado.
Sting tuvo un mes de septiembre bastante activo, dos días antes se había dejado ver en el estreno en Londres del musical “Sinatra: The man and his music”. El día 19 estuvo en “Pianos”, un pequeño club neoyorquino, viendo la actuación de su hija pequeña Eliot Sumner, antes conocida como Coco. Por último el día 23 estuvo en Las Vegas promocionando los vinos que elabora en su Villa de la Toscana con nombres tan reconocibles como “Message in a bottle”, “When we dance” o “Sister Moon”.
