COMENTARIO: 

Hace casi un año comentaba que era difícil que la gira conjunta de Sting y Paul Simon tuviera continuidad, por dos motivos: Sting debutaba en Broadway con su primer musical y Simon, al parecer, tenía pensado entrar a grabar un nuevo álbum. Afortunada o desafortunadamente me equivoqué, el musical de Sting aguantó apenas 4 meses en cartel y Simon se tomará más tiempo a la hora de presentar material nuevo. Ahora tienen algo más en común, ambos pasaron con más pena que gloria por Broadway, Sting con “The last ship” y Simon con “The capeman”. Ahora el experimento de juntar a 17 músicos en escena (con instrumentos que van desde el cello hasta la tuba) y mezclar a lo largo de 32 canciones y durante 165 minutos dos repertorios muy distintos, se trasladó a Nueva Zelanda y Australia. A partir del 13 de marzo visitará también 14 países europeos (España por desgracia se quedó fuera del tour). Las novedades con respecto al tour norteamericano fueron significativas, Sting prescindió en esta ocasión de temas como “Englishman in New York”, “Every little thing she does is magic”, “I hung my head” o “They dance alone”, para dejar paso a un sorprendente “So lonely”, “When the world is running down”, “Seven days” o “End of the game”. Sting y Paul Simon se encontraron en el escenario numerosas veces, cantaron 10 temas a dúo (4 de Sting, 5 de Simon y el tradicional cover de los Everly Brothers). Por primera vez cantaron juntos “Cecilia”. Paul Simon en su propio set aparte de ofrecer sorpresas siguió ofreciendo su particular tributo a Junior Parker (“Mystery train”) y Chet Atkins (“Wheels”). Sting homenajeó brevemente a Bill Withers cantando unas breves estrofas de “Ain’t no sunshine” durante el largo medley de “Roxanne”.
